Meeting Mondays.
Twelve of 13 Mondays in any given three months, there are Transylvania County and Brevard city government sessions in need of our attendance.
The Board of Commissioners meets the second (4 p.m.) and fourth (6 p.m.) Mondays each month at 101 South Broad Street, Brevard. The TC Board of Education meets the first and third Mondays (6:30 p.m.) usually at 225 Rosenwald Lane, Brevard. Brevard City Council meets the first and third Mondays (5:30 p.m.) at 95 West Main Street. Rosman’s Board of Aldermen meet the second Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. at 6 Main Street, Rosman.
As your new GOP chair, I encourage all of us, and I include myself, to tune in to county and local government and reduce our cable news TV time.
Our party worked hard during the 2020 and 2022 cycles to elect and re-elect conservative policy makers in county government. Conservatives hold 9 of 10 positions on the County Commission and School Board. They deserve our continued support.
Naturally, when our commissioners defend the rights of property owners and stay strong on budget and responsible spending it draws sharp criticism from opponents. Never mind all five commissioners were elected by large margins in the last 2 ½ years, including Jake Dalton who was elected in 2020 and again in 2022.
Whether it’s attending meetings and speaking up or being supportive, or writing letters to the editor, or simply saying “thank you,” letting our conservative leaders know we have their collective backs is reassuring. We can have the biggest impact at the local level.
On the state level, our NC Supreme Court is working through voter ID, redistricting, and the Leandro education funding lawsuit. At our March 17 breakfast, Judge Robert N. Hunter, Jr., who served on the NC Court of Appeals and NC Supreme Court for 10 years before retiring in 2019, broke down all three cases and took questions.
Please stay curious and ask questions.
Best wishes,
Jeff Brewer
